This course addresses several hot topics that foreshadow the future of modern medicine. You will learn when and how genetic testing informs the delivery of Personalized Patient Care and learn from a NASA Science Astronaut what important basic lessons space travel can teach us about cell biology. Regeneration of damaged tissues is one of the holy grails in medicine and stem cells might be an answer. Recently, there has been a growing awareness that behaviors of stem cells emerge out of the highly complex interactions of dynamic networks of gene regulation and proliferative control involving both the control within the cell itself as well as the cross talk between the cell and its surroundings. In this course you will get a look behind the scenes to learn more about stem cells and get a realistic insight into their potential as therapeutics of the future.

Yes, you can register for the course as a whole or signup for particular lectures for a $15 per class rate. If you would like to sign up for these three classes in advance, please call our registration office directly and let them know you are planning to attend just the last three lectures. 415-476-5808.

If I miss the first class, will I understand the rest? Are there prerequisites?
Thank you for your interest! The series is not scheduled sequentially so you do not need to attend one lecture to understand the following lectures. You can come to one or all of the lectures. If you can only make one, the drop in fee is just $15 a class.

We welcome walk-in registration for this course. The cost is $15 and we accept cash, check and credit card. To sign-up on the day of the course, come to the lobby of 513 Parnassus and look for our registration desk. See you there.
I just got this in the mail, so I can’t even call in for information because the office is closed. But if anyone can tell me where exactly the lectures are being held and where do I register in person that would be great. By the way, I was thinking to register online but I saw an option for “student discount” (non-ucsf), so what proof do I need to bring to register in person. Thank you.

If you would like to register as a student, please come to the lobby of the Medical Sciences building at 513 Parnassus with your student ID card. The student discount is $15 for the series with valid ID. Make sure to come a bit early because registration can be busy, especially on the first nights. See you there.
