Health Reform at the Crossroads: How We Got to the ACA and Where We Go from Here

Overview

In light of  national initiatives to deliver and transform health care services as efficiently and effectively as possible, Drs. Yelin and Coffman have put together a course on cutting-edge issues concerning health reform. Topics will include what made health reform necessary, competing proposals that existed before the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was passed, and what the ACA  is all about!   In addition, the course will explore how health reform is being implemented in California and San Francisco; and the impact on various population groups – including those with poor coverage before.  Other areas of the course will explore the impact of health reform on institutions like UCSF and the University of California system-wide, as well as Kaiser Permanente, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, and the safety net institutions and providers.  Finally, the course will wrap up with a session on how to evaluate whether health reform and the ACA is working.  If you want to learn more about health reform, and the challenges that lie ahead to advance the science of health care delivery and public health – this course is for you!
